Project timelines fail when they count tasks but ignore dependencies, review time, decision delays, and the fact that humans are not machines.

Start with work, not the deadline

A project timeline calculator estimates dates based on tasks, durations, dependencies, working days, and buffers. The most honest timeline starts by listing the actual work. Then identify which tasks can happen in parallel and which must wait for another task to finish.

If the desired deadline is chosen first, the plan may become reverse justification. Counting the work first makes tradeoffs visible earlier.

Dependencies create the critical path

The critical path is the chain of tasks that determines the earliest possible finish date. If one task on that path slips, the whole project slips unless scope, resources, or sequencing change. A calculator helps identify where delays matter most.
